How to make simple greenery for your dollhouse - tutorial

This is just one that I decided to do on the spur of a moment and turned out nicely I think.

I wanted to make something easy, fast and inexpensive that still looked good.

A while ago, I bought a full sized fern bunch from a craft store that looked like it might cut up nicely to use as filler in full size silk flower arrangements. It worked well for that but when I looked at it, I wondered if it might work for anything miniature. This is what I came up with. It isn't a particular plant type but could be used universally with almost any other plants as a filler. If you have several very colorful plants grouped together, you might want to put a couple of these in as fillers to separate plants that each could be the center of interest. Sometimes that will enhance the overall looks of the scene. Too many centers of interest in too close an area will make the overall scene less appealing.

  • I just cut fronds off of the fern and remove any of the plastic that might be on the fronds.
  • Prepare whatever kind of container that you want to use for your plant.
  • Stab near the flat end of the frond with the needle tool, wrap the frond around the needle and dip the very end of the frond in glue and push it into the prepared pot.
  • Put in the leaves one at a time to get the shape you want. Keep the leaves rounded to at least a certain extent. If you let them flatten, they will look less realistic.
  • Different colors, shapes and sizes of small silk fern leaves could give different effects and you could plant them in anything.
  • The whole purpose is that they add green to your scene.
